I got to see most of this one.  🙂  I got back home last night just and JUST missed seeing Adrian Beltre’s home run.  So I rewound the dvr to see it and got rewarded with the Beltre, Martinez, Scutaro (and last night others joined in) dugout show!  I think the adventures of “Don’t touch my head!” have been one of the most fun side stories a Red Sox team has had in years.

Here’s the thing:  I’m not going to go over the math,  I’ve gone over it time and again and I mention the numbers here seemingly every other day, but as fans we’re in a great position right now.  Our minds are telling us it’s over, to just enjoy each game as they come because it’s going to be a long winter, but our hearts are still being allowed to believe.  The math does not rule the Red Sox out just yet.  The math tells us it would be difficult for the Sox to overtake one of the teams ahead of them but not impossible.  We have the best of both worlds.  We can relax watching these games, understanding that the chances are our team won’t be playing past the regular season, while deep inside we can rejoice with every win by the Sox (and loss by the Rays or Yankees – I prefer rejoicing over the Yankees losses myself) because it means hope is still alive.  I think I’m enjoying this September more than I’ve enjoyed any September in a while.  It’s nice what equal doses of reality and hope can do for a person.

After an off-day today, the next nine games the Red Sox play are against American League East teams.  Three with the Jays, three with the Orioles and three with the Yanks.  The possibilities are mind-boggling.

  2. I still see six games coming up between us and the Yankees…and they’re in the midst of a wicked slide. I’m just saying…

(I’m glad there’s a place I can come and find others who still believe!)
