Red Sox Chick/Toeing the Rubber

Because you always need a backup plan

On a day like this you share your joy

Steve is ready to see Javier Lopez! Photo taken by Kelly O’Connor/sittingstill.net and used with permission.

By the time most of you read this, I’ll be in Pawtucket with KellyO (and Steve!) waiting for the Pawsox/Bisons game to begin. I’m leaving the house around 6:30am for a 12:05pm game. After the PawSox game, I’ll be heading back to Boston for the Red Sox/Blue Jays game.

I’m quite looking forward to it but I’m also looking toward Wednesday to catch up on some sleep!

We’ll see Clay Buchholz pitch in Pawtucket and then Tim Wakefield in Boston. I’m hoping for a Kyle Snyder sighting at McCoy (and realize that there might also be a Javier Lopez sighting. It’ll be like 2007 all over again! 😉 ).

Cute article on Kyle over at the Buffalo Bisons website – written by a fifth grader named “Nate”.

Snyder was born on September 9, 1977 in Houston, Texas. His favorite player was San Francisco Giant Will Clark. Snyder graduated from high school in 1996 and was drafted by the Devil Rays in the amateur draft. However, he chose to go to UNC at Chapel Hill. While at college, this 6’8″ giant also played golf, basketball, and swam. In 1998, he was drafted 7th overall by the KC Royals.

Is that not the cutest thing? Nate has good taste for a 5th grader.

The Bisons beat the PawSox on Monday 9-2. This puts their record at 10-26 (as opposed to the record of the PawSox: 21-16). It’s tough to begrudge the team a win with a record like that. Maybe beating the second place team so soundly will give them that extra kick they need to get them back on track.

Kevin Youkilis was playing in Pawtucket Monday night and went 0-2 with a walk.

“I felt good,” he said. “Just a little rusty, just baseball and all that. But I felt good and excited just to be on the field again. It was good to get out there, and play a little bit, get at-bats, see the ball from the pitcher. It was good to have a guy [Buffalo starter Fernando Nieve] who had a little velocity, too, just to see that. Felt good, just, hopefully, [Tuesday] I can get some more at-bats and each day hopefully get comfortable each day playing.”

So we’ll get to see more at-bats for Youk Tuesday afternoon. While that will be cool, I can’t wait to see him back at Fenway. I’ve had enough of these crappy games and we need hit bat back in that lineup.

Incidentally, I’m definitely live blogging Wednesday night’s game. 7:10pm game time on Wednesday. Much more workable than a 10:05pm start!

Wake, again, gets to be a stopper of sorts Tuesday night. Just win, fellas, just win.
