Red Sox Chick/Toeing the Rubber

Because you always need a backup plan

We got to pray just to make it today

How could Manny have taken suffering like this for so long? Photo taken by Kelly O’Connor/ Used with permission.

Dear God:

I don’t ask for much. I’m generally pleased with my life and you’ve been more than generous, especially this past year. I’m a happy gal and I don’t want anything more than my fair share.

Having written that, I do have a request. I was hoping you could find it in your heart to make me suffer. Not just random suffering, mind you, I’ve had enough of that in my life. I was hoping for the kind of suffering you thrust upon poor Manny Ramirez.

I’m not sure how he made it through those tough times. 8 years of being treated like a God, getting paid millions upon millions of dollars to play a game, and being allowed to act like a petulant child whenever the feeling hit with no worries of any kind of reprimand. Life was so hard for Manny here in Boston!!

I’d like a piece of that action.

I understand there are differences between Manny and myself. For instance, I can’t hit a baseball two feet let alone 400. I’m willing to overlook that if you are. Also, I understand that I don’t have the likes of CHB and Gerry Callahan and others out there following me around with a magnifying glass. But I sure as heck would be willing to deal with that for $160 million. Heck, I’ll take a quarter of that and let CHB ride with me to work!

See, I’m willing to negotiate.

So think about it, God. Try to find it in your heart to make me suffer to the tune of a few hundred million. I’ll make it worth your while.

Thanks in advance.
